Ong jun Wei

He is a cheerful 8 years old who has a scar on his forehead like Harry Potter.
Full of smile and laugh heartily all the time, he draws whimsically.


I first met him last Thursday.
It was the first day of a 2 weeks art workshop.
I was early for the class, all the rest of the children ran out to play because the lesson haven't start.
But Junwei stayed in the classroom despite permission from me to go out to play.

Me: " Why dun you go out to play? It's still early."

JW: " I dun want, I want to draw."

Me: " ok, then draw."

JW: " I only have one drawing paper, I forgot to bring my drawing block. This one(drawing paper) is from Weixian(the boy who sat next to Junwei who ran out to play).

Me: "oh...nevermind, just draw.I have extra paper. I will give you another piece later if you need one."

JW: " Really!"

With all smile, he started to draw a butterfly.

JW: "Teacher, I WANT TO BE AN ARTIST WHEN I GROW UP!"

I SMILED.

Me: " Really? WHY?"

JW: " Because I love TO DRAW!"

Me: " That's Great!"

JW:" I always draw at home."

Me: " What other things do you like to do at home?"

JW:" Oh...I also like to bake!"

Me:" Sounds fun."

JW:" Hmmmm, then I will be a artist baker when I grow up!"

I SMILED.


He told me again today that he wants to be an artist when he grow up.
He seems determined. And then he corrected and says he is going to be an artist baker.
He cannot decide which one he likes better and wants to be both.


I wonder how many of you knows what you want to be since 8 years old like how determine little Junwei is. For his case, he is determine to be both an artist and a baker.

Some people do not even know what they really love to do until now; while some knows what they love to do but dare not DREAM to do the things they love when they grow up.

Children SHOULD BE ALLOWED to dream to grow up doing things THEY LOVE.



As far as I can remember, I am usually the one who ask my students "Who wants to be an artist?"in class, and usually will end up with reluctant answers like, "My mother says artist will not earn money" even if that student is really talented and loves to draw. Nowadays, children no longer wish to do things that they love when they grow up if that something they loves to do, do not make money. They are NOT ENCOURAGE AND SOME NOT ALLOWED.The worst thing is, they will tell you, "I WANT TO GROW UP TO BE A BANKER! A LAWYER! A DOCTOR! " BECAUSE THEY EARN A LOT OF MONEY!". No matter how cruel reality is, children should be ALLOWED TO HAVE DREAMS!




And so,
Please remember his name.
Who knows he might be famous someday...
If he is still as determine as now in the future to be an artist he will be.
If not, being a baker is really not bad either.

Check out Soompi SKKS forum at least every 3 hours for updates.
Check out Bad Milk at least twice a day for spoilers. Used to check out like N(lost count) times a day...when she was updating the translated scenes.
Check dramabeans( I must say they are exceptionally SLOW with SKKS recaps compare to other dramas which they recap.But I am still thankful)
Check out vikii.(before they remove the videos and sub)
Check out baidu for skks news( I am chinese)
Nothing else...get ready to work.( I work on sundays)

On the way to and fro work, on my iphone, read soompi updates if any.
Back at home.

Swoon, drool and get excited while I wait in pain for the RAW to come out.
Marvel at the numbers of users increasing every single seconds as i refreshes the flying pages on SKKS forum.


1130pm.
usually Tudou will have it's RAW for SKKS out!
Low quality and in parts.
In the past for other dramas,I will just ignore RAW.
Because I will have to watch the translated one again, waste of time.

BUT FOR SKKS.

We will squeal and scream in the middle of the night discussing about the scenes that we watch and speculate what it means because we don't understand a single word in korean. At some point, I actually made myself believe that by watching the same scene over and over again...I might just guess what they are saying finally.
But I don't.

And the next 5 days are spent looking forward to the next SKKS Day in agony.
(I used to check out vikki for english translations on Wednesday and watch again....because I love the commentary on top from viewers...
feels like watching the drama with a lot of people at the same time. But alas...no more, It's a pity)

I am watching the raw now and don't understand a thing and refuses to read spoilers....
Because i want to keep the suspense till I watch the chinese sub 3 hours later from now...

But but but....the first 6 minutes of the show where

LSJ saw KYS and MJS together in the room together and perhaps misunderstood them as if they are almost kissing or watsoever

is making me peddling my feet on the bed and muffled myself with pillow to stop myself from yelling too loudly.

That is how excited I was!

Ok...looks like the loading is done...back to my RAWWWW!

First of all i would like to thank EVERBODY on this thread
for sharing OUR LOVE for SKKS.
And made this thread flies!

I was checking out dramabeans for updates and was a little disappointed that they had only updated their recap only till Episode 12.
But I was delighted to find that it was flooded with comments from all the SKKS fans.
As I browse through, spot this particular comment for Episode 12 recap. Not sure if other SKKS fan in this forum had quote this before,
Just wanted to share the joy of how well-loved SKKS is ALSO IN KOREA despite the ratings.

1) They calculate rating for the household of 4 family members (No single member household included)
2) When there are 4 people in the family, it is generally Mother Father and two children and mother and father tends to watch other channel dramas which are geared for more mature(?) audience such as dong yi or giant
3) The rating on the internet is exploding for this series. (43% in kbs)
4)Most younger Koreans watch tv on the internet or via phone, which doesn’t count.

The proof this is popular, it has more than 20000 uploads relating this series which is close to the record uploads for the boys over flowers 22000(?) uploads by the users in the nation’s popular website (www.dcinside.com). Also you can find that out by typing on youtube ‘성균관 스캔들’ (sungkyunkwan scandal in korean) to see endless number of fanmade music videos, edited shots etc.

Just want to make a point that it isn’t that we don’t notice this series or are overlooking this series. This has been stormy exactly like here.

p.s.) On the side note, I’m glad to see everyone really enjoying this delightful show, I feel proud as a Korean >_<>

By the way, we have a vocabulary for this phenomenon, for people who can’t do anything but thinking about something, like SKKS, we call ‘Paein’ (廢人) So if you can’t stop thinking about SKKS then you are SKKS Paein. (ref: http://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%ED%8F%90%EC%9D%B8)

We also have another word for a feeling or a state that is like quasi-sickness because of someone in the drama. We call it ‘Al-i’. So if you like so much JS and feel almost sick, you are having Geoloh-al-i.

149.4.1.1.1 yu October 15th, 2010 at 12:50 pm ..........That is a Chinese character that means ‘a person’, and the first character means something ‘gone bad’. (You know in Korea we use a lot of words that have Chinese characters in it.) So it is ‘a person gone bad’, someone who became useless because he/she thinks only about one thing. In Korean cultural context, it means a SEVERE obsessed mental state with a cultural product such as a game or a drama.

p.s.) The symptoms are several but we do something called ‘bon-bang-sa-su’, (watching the first airing at whatever cost!) to start with. 4) You laugh or smile without a reason just looking at the computer background image of your favorite actor(s)/actress(es) of the drama.”✔✔✔NOW! Aww....

Today, is Monday.

For the past few weeks, I call all my Mondays and Tuesdays as SKKS Day.
I will try all means to stay at home to wait for RAW and chinese sub.
I reject dates, pretend to be report sick, refuse to answer missed phone calls...
even if i really have to go out...my heart will be at home with my laptop.

I was still feeling all normal and ok from Wednesday till Saturday...
checking out soompi, thundie,yogurutu, dramabean, etc
as if it was yet another painful wait for the next Monday to come...

some are still spazzing about Micky's ad-lib last scene...(*blush*)
some fantasize the aftermath of the ending(*blush even more*)
some repeatedly watch the last scene N times (*hide underneath blanket blush more*)
some are unhappy with the ending..
some are working on fanfic...
some wonders what will happen to Prof KYS if she is pregnant...will she be able to get her maternal leave?...(LOL)
some sharing news of the celebrations(sadly without Micky),
some talk about Micky's new hair cut,(how can anyone be sooo cute with a SUCH A NORMAL LOOKING HAIRSTYLE!)
some translating twitter of PMY going off for holidays,(Aww..Happy Holiday KYH!)
Some shares YAI in his cute photoshot...(How can anyone not love him!)
some newbies share old news of Yeorim from running man and new interviews...(how I miss his "nan ...gu yongha!")
some are still waiting for subs for Ep 20...
some newbie declare that it is time to delurk and express their love for SKKS for the first time in Soompi
like how we used to delurk and confess our OBSESSION for Sungkyunkwan Scandal....( everybody has their first time )

Every time I stalk Soompi every now and then, at least 5 times a day as usual after last Tuesday...
there is at least up to around 100 users reading this thread at ANY ONE TIME of the day...EVEN AFTER the drama ends...
be it 9am in the morning, 3pm in the afternoon, 8pm in the evening and 2am in the middle of the night...round the clock.

Why why why?

WHY?

Why can't we let go even almost after one week since the drama ended...

Because...SUNGKYUNKWAN SCANDAL STILL LIVE ON IN OUR HEARTS...

I know I am in denial.
I don't want to let go.
I don't know how to.
Perhaps when the time comes, and there is really no more SKKS to watch tonight...
I will finally accept that the drama is over.

But until then...right now...

It's Monday again.

I do not want to moan over it yet, until I am convince IT IS OVER.

And so...

TODAY WILL STILL BE MY BELOVED SKKS DAY!

Diary of a boring SKKS addict.
Probably the last entry.

Tuesday.
Supposed to be yet another of our beloved SKKS day.

But...but.. where is my SKKS? T___T

The withdrawal is kicking in hard.
I have no mood to do anything or watch any new dramas.

Yesterday I was still in denial.
I slept really early to ease the withdrawal symptoms.
End up waking up too early and feeling lost.
No more raw, no need to wait for subs.
I am really thankful for this thread to be around for me to cling onto to soothe my SKKS withdrawal.
So thankful that I still can have things to look forward to for SKKS
and at the same time I decided to be more active in dealing with the fact that there is NO MORE SKKS.

Here are the list of things I look forward to and new dramas that I plan to watch...
while I slowly get over the withdrawal symptoms.
Hopefully, it is useful to you all fellow scandalers who are also suffering from "Sungkyunkwan Scandal Withdrawal Symptoms" like me.


Things to look forward to:

1. Wait for the Epic review of SKKS on thundie's blog.
As a registered member of the SKKS AA, I shall faithfully wait and look forward to this.

2. Wait for the SKKS Soompi Team subbed BTS and the Special Episode.
Million thanks from the bottom of my heart.

3. Wait for SKKS Dcut!

4. Wait for dramabeans recap of Ep 19 and Ep 20

5. Wait for yogurutu's new translation for the next scene. ( She currently translating the whole book scene by scene)
Hopefully a proper english or chinese translated version of SKKS is out on the shelf for us to buy soon soon!


Dramas to watch:

1. SUNGKYUNKWAN SCANDAL!!!
REWATCH Episode 1-20 with english sub
What else but SKKS AGAIN on the number one list.
I used to watch it with Chinese sub, now I wanna watch the SKKS Soompi team version
and many thanks for their effort again and again.

2. Beautiful Love
If you couldn't get enough of Micky and wants MORE MORE MORE like me...
I am putting this on my "to watch" list after I rewatch SKKS.
I wonder how it feels to see Lee Sun Joon wearing modern clothes and speaks in Japanese.

3. The man who can't get married.
I watched this show before. But I seriously don't remember seeing Yoo Ah In.
I need to rewatch this to see how the boyish Yoo Ah In can become manly "wild horse" in SKKS.

4. OB and GY
Nothing beats watching Song Joong Ki in doctor's suit.
SKKS AA needs him.

5. I am Sam.
Watch our pretty Park Min Young as a student AGAIN in modern high school.
Yay!

6. Mary...stay out all night. OR Marry Me, Mary!
This is simply a convenient choice to fill up the SKKS void.
The very next drama after SKKS ended.
On top of that, it had JGS from YAB and MGY from Cinderella's sister.
I actually tried to lurk around the Soompi Marry Me, Mary forum and found that
a lot of fellow SKKS addict suffering from withdrawal are seeking relief over there...
Moreover, I heard our dear Softy is doing live recap for it currently as her new project.
We can show her our support over there!


7.Dong Yi
This is last on my list but I want to include this.
I want to find out exactly how good this show is that is keeping our SKKS ratings to soar!
It better be good! Or I will be ANGRY!


Ahhh after so many things to look forward to and dramas on my list to watch...
I think I should be okok by the time I finish all the above.

But no matter what.

I have concluded that Sungkyunkwan Scandal will be the number one drama in my heart now.
I am quite a drama crazy person but I have never suffer such withdrawal symptoms from any drama before,
NEVER EVER until this drama.
But I am not complaining, and loving every bit of this addiction.

To quote our Gu Yong Ha's word from SKKS.

"It is never a sin to love..."

And so,

下午 ，因为太累小睡一会儿，做了一个画面很凄美的梦。梦见应该是像新加坡一样的地方，全城开满了一种粉红色的，叫做“离花”的花朵。花的形状像绣球，一整粒的，当落下的时候就会在还没着地之前整个散开，花瓣会随着风，在空中弥漫。。。整个城市顿时像飘着粉红 色的雪花一样。。。很美却也同时会让人感到莫名的哀伤。然后梦中有人预 言，说当全城开满“离花”后，洪水将会在花落之季泛滥全城。。。。琦芸在梦里刚好正乘搭着一辆无顶的双层巴士，看着粉红色的离花花瓣四处飘扬，布满全城，然后道路开始被周围的洪水掩盖，巴士被迫开往城内的最高处。。。琦芸无奈地看着不知从哪来的洪水淹没 全城。。。
